Restless Toy

the easy way would be to hold your heart
steady four to five feet above the ground
feel it kick like a restless toy
in your hands
and when its machinations begin
to slow
give it a shake to loosen the gears
till it whirrs smooth again
but the bitch of it is
it gets so very boring listening
to the murmur of a clock that never tells you anything
but the time
